1971 Firebird Formula 400
Well what can we say about this? How about “the 1971 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 "Bullnose" is one of the most striking genuine Muscle cars ever produced!!” This very special and stunning example has been the subject of a full body and paint restoration, a fully re-built and upgraded high-output 400 V8, new automatic TH400 gearbox, new black leather interior, rebuilt 3.08:1 Posi 10 bolt rear and refurbished 15-inch Honeycomb wheels fitted with General Grabber tyres. And these are just the highlights - the exhaustive history and restoration file makes for good bedtime reading! Also, featured and on the front cover of American Car Magazines September 2012 edition along with mentions and photos in American Auto News December 2013. Copies of both publications come with it and can be viewed on our Flickr album link at the bottom of this text. Also supplied with a copy of its California Title and (part) Factory build sheet.
The full specification and invoices for the engine re-build are available for inspection upon viewing but in summery has included:
Edelbrock heads, intake and carburetor,ARP head bolts,Scat 0.040 pistons,Crower roller rockers,Comp Cams lifters, timing set and camshaft,Melling oil pump, Felpro gasket set,Summit billet distributor, coil and leads,MSD ignition.
The complete engine rebuild and fitting of new TH400 gearbox was only completed August 2016 and the 1000 mile running-in period is now complete. The running-in oil has just been replaced with Royal Purple oil and a new filter and is all set to be driven and enjoyed.
All the mechanical work has been carried out by a well-known specialist engine builder here in the North East who is also responsible for the custom made stainless steel headers and dual exhaust system. The invoices for the engine, gearbox and exhaust/headers alone come to £14566!
The new supple black leather seats with Formula 400 stitched decals, new door panels and carpets were also only fitted last year and are consequently as new and with the single broad black stripe and Firebird decals compliment the red paintwork beautifully.Fitted with a Trans Am machined dash (the original is supplied) and Sony Bluetooth/USB/MP3 Audio System.
Total recent expenditure just over £17000.
All invoices referred to above are included along with the earlier body restoration, photo record and general history file and are available when viewing the car. A valuation from the Chairman of the Pontiac Owners Club UK dated 2012 states the value at £25000-this of course is well before its recent expenditure. A further agreed insurance value from 2016 of £30000 is attached from Footman James.
There are only a handful of "Bullnose" 400's in Formula or Trans Am guise available for sale and if you look you will see a couple currently on offer for the £40000 to £50000 price mark here and in the US. We think this restored and re-built car is at least as good as anything out there and at £26995 is starting to look way under priced. So be quick if you want this in your garage before we decide we have made a mistake in our pricing!?
Comes with its spare wheel and tools and spare set of keys.
Feel free to call if you would like to know more or make an appointment to view this quite exceptional Formula 400.
