Overview
SOLD – Congratulations To Dave
1972 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C3 LT-1 350 V8 4 Speed Manual. Finished in original 973 Red Mille Miglia with 407 Firethorn Red interior. Factory PAS, Power Disc Brakes and original Factory optioned wheels with white wall tyres. Removable T-Tops and rear window.
Exceptionally rare higher output factory LT-1 and last of the chrome bumper Stingrays. Complete frame-off restored in 2014 and still presents in remarkable restored condition throughout. The LT-1 Corvettes were built as a limited production from Chevrolet running from 1970 to 1972. It is regarded today as one of the greatest Chevy small blocks and with only 1741 cars being produced in 1972 means it is rare to ever see one come to market, especially outside of the US.
The restoration was carried out by Corvette experts An American Classic headed by Al Wagner. Al had been part of GM’s Corvette design team working alongside the renowned Stingray series designer Larry Shinoda before moving on to Harley Davidson and finally setting up his Corvette restoration company in 2004. A better resume for Corvette restoration would be hard to find and the attention to detail and finish of the LT1 is testament to that.
Purchased by the first UK owner direct from An American Classic and supplied with all UK invoices and MOT certificates, copy of US Title, magazine featuring Al Wagner, 2 sets of keys, spare wheel and tools. All our cars are fully inspected prior to sale and come with a new service and MOT.
The first LT-1 engine was introduced in the Corvette in 1970 as an option. It was a raucous, racing-inspired engine with solid valve lifters, a high-lift camshaft and high-winding personality that redefined Small Block performance.
Presenting in its gleaming paintwork and chrome and renewed OE interior this is a very special car. The race car inspired performance LT-1 engine demands some concentration on the road but makes every drive a rewarding experience and definitely one to remember.
If you were to restore another Corvette to this exacting standard or look to purchase a similar quality LT-1 from the USA, the cost would now far exceed the current sale price. Add into the fact that only 1741 units were produced, opportunities to own such examples don’t come around often.
