Saying this is a one-off Mach 1 is perhaps an understatement. Purchased from the first owner 45 years ago in 1976. Such long-term ownership is highly unusual however but John, who’s car this was, worked on several Bond Movies as a special effects engineer. He worked extensively for example on the BMW Z8 cars for the movie The World Is Not Enough.

However, in Die Another Day there is a scene where Bonds Aston Martin Vantage is pursued across the ice by a Jaguar XKR. Jaguar supplied 8 XKR’s for the film, one of which was acquired by John. This particular car had been fitted with a new Ford 302 engine which after filming was fitted to the Mach 1 and is what remains in the car today. The new engine was subsequently upgraded and tuned further to his specifications and has covered nominal miles since.

In 2013 a bare metal body restoration and repaint was carried out by marque specialists in its original factory colour and correct Mach 1 decals. This was at the eye-watering cost of £25,000 which, not surprisingly, still remains in exceptional order. Comes with a huge history file with MOT’s and paperwork going back to the 1970’s, US Marti report plus Mustang and Holley manuals (he also carried out development work for Holley) In addition, there are perhaps 20 or more files detailing the exhaustive work carried out by John in improving and fine tuning his Mustang to get it the best it could be for him.

The result is a car that not only has a wonderful story to tell but also drives and performs as well as any of the very best examples we have had and in the current classic Mustang market looks like excellent value.
